SEO On Page strategy searchers, Welcome

Hi,

Once you have your theme, your list of keywords and a broad site structure, how do you set up your individual web page?

  1. Use plenty of content. Content is king. If a user likes your content he will come back for more. Where possible, keep it refreshed so that users come back looking to see what has changed. On every page make sure that the visitor’s quest “WIIFM” is satisfied i.e. what’s in it for me?
  2. Use the web page at the top level rather then buried deep in the web site. If you are targeting a particular topic, then ensure that the main entry point is at the domain name level ie. www.mybusiness.com and not www.mybusiness.com/level2/level3/interest
  3. Use the main keyword in the <'title'> tag. Ensure that the Title tag has at least your main keyword in it.
  4. Use <'h1'> header tags, preferably with only your main keyword within those tags. This is your main heading.
  5. Use <'h2'> and <'h3'> header tags with the secondary key words. These are your sub-headings.
  6. Place emphasis on the keywords e.g. bold, italics, underline. The search engines are looking to see what your site is about, tell them but don’t overdo it. Two or three times should be enough.
  7. Use <'alt'> image tags with the key word within the tag to enable the search engines to recognise the value of the images.
  8. use the keyword at the very beginning of the page and at the very end e.g. in the copywrite notice
  9. Set up web sites to cater for all browsers and users e.g. cater for different screen resolutions
  10. Don’t have too many flash animations and images. They slow the page loading time and they also don’t provide any information to the search engines.
  11. Give away freebies such as ebooks, audio or video material
  12. use the description tags even if only a small number of search engines use them in their evaluation
So for Lesson 4, SEO Off-Page techniques
